Power Reading Course Book with Audio Countdown Timing CD: The Best, Fastest, Easiest, Most Effective Course on Speedreading and Comprehension Ever Developed!
ASIN: 0960170642

Customer's Rating: 3
Summary: ...
Comments: Although I'm sure this book is excellent, I was pretty upset when I found the cd version to be near useless after spending about double the price for the book w/ cd version. It doesn't give any new information, any other information, just reiterates what I've already read. And if you have a watch or clock or kitchen timer, save yourself[the money] because that's really the only feature of the cd, is that it times the drills for you... big deal! If I were to do it all over again, I'd buy the original book without the cd...
The Photoreading Whole Mind System
ASIN: 0925480533

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: I used my whole mind to dramatically advance in Pool!
Comments: I purchased The Photoreading Whole Mind system because I read about 4 books per week the old fashioned way and it took so much time that I had little time for other things. When I purchased the book, I photoread several books on charisma, influence and persuasion in order to better my dealings with people. I saw little change, and I really didn't get it.
The book was sitting on my desk for months before I decided to pick it up and go through it again. This time, I photoread the book. I went to a local bookstore the next day and photoread 3 books on the game of Pool, 1 book on Geometry and another on Physics. The next day I went out to shoot pool and my game had DRAMATICALLY increased! I shot like I had been shooting seriously for years instead of one year. People began asking me if I had a pool table in my home! Do I play in a league? Do I do tournaments?!? I'm elated!
The Photoreading Whole Mind System is new and exciting and a little unbelievable. I believe this is the reason the system will be so difficult for some people to grasp and utilize. It is truly UNBELIEVABLE. And you must BELIEVE you know the information you have photoread in order to have access to it. Children may be able to pick up the system easier than adults because they already believe they have super powers and can do anything! Adults may have to set it aside for a while and come back to it several times before they want something so badly that they make it work for them. Once they have their first success with the program, it'll be easy to gain the second... and easier, still to gain the third and fourth.
Since using photoreading to enhance my pool game, I have photoread many books having to do with confidence, charisma, people, body language and much more. My dealings with people have improved dramatically and my intuition and self confidence have increased. I'm certain that, if you can believe just long enough to get that 1st success, you can use Photoreading to accomplish whatever it is that you would like to accomplish.
Evelyn Wood 7 Day Speed Reading and Learning Program: Remember Everything You Read
ASIN: 0380715775

Customer's Rating: 4
Summary: Not Bad, Especially for the Price!
Comments: Judging by the success stories in all these speed reading books I've been going over, there sure are a lot of 800+wpm readers out there (among whom I DO NOT rank!). This book makes similar fantastic claims...you can read up to 3,000 wpm, etc.
One thing this book is pretty emphatic about, though, is that this kind of speed takes WORK, and regular "workouts." In other words, you have keep at it, or you lose the ability.
The book doesn't focus on speed reading. Rather, it presents a whole learning system, of which speed reading is a part. I bought it primarily because it was cheap, and was pleasantly surprised to discover that there is some pretty sound study-skills instruction here.
This is very much another accelerated learning book, without explicitly being touted as one. Kaplan's main reading strategy is "Layered Reading," which, if you've read other books in this field, you'll recognize. You begin by previewing (headings, bold print, etc.), then do a fast "read" through, at 2-4 seconds a page, to get a little more information, then do it again at a slightly slower speed, then, back to the beginning, and read through at your comfortable reading speed. Then you review.
How can this possibly be "accelerated"? Because when you read, you read at 1500 words per minute. If you can, that is! The key to speedy learning with this system--as, arguably, with all these accelerated learning systems--is being able to read fast. Very fast.
This book's sub-900 wpm reading tactic involves learning to read chunks of a page at once...you mentally divide the page down the middle, and then horizontally 5 times or so. Kaplan says that with practice you will be able to comprehend meaning from words within sentence read out of order. Maybe...for me, it has worked only on VERY easy texts, and then my comprehension was hardly outstanding. I certainly wouldn't pleasure read like this. To be honest, though, I haven't practiced this technique all that much.
Is it really possible to read at 3000 wpm? I don't know. I haven't met anyone who does. Kaplan says that within a month, though, you should be able to read at least 1,500 wpm...I've been practicing speed reading for a couple months, and I'm sure as hell nowhere near that range yet. And I read a lot.
Still, this is not a bad book. I think it will be especially useful to younger students...serious high school and junior high students, for instance. It is straightforward, and easy to read. Kaplan cuts right to the chase, without wasting time exploring "mind science," as so many accelerated learning books do. Success will not come without a lot of work, though.
Speed Reading for Business (Barrons Business Success Series)
ASIN: 0764104012

Customer's Rating: 4
Summary: Practical, sound advice
Comments: I'll start off by saying that if you want to become a proficient speed reader, it takes work and effort. Having said this, Moidel's book is the way to go about it. The book outlines the most common hindrances to speed reading and then illustrates how to conquer them. Within an hour I doubled my reading speed by using some of the basic pointers.
To get full use of this book, you must dedicate time to practising the numerous drills that are offered. With perseverence, you should be pushing 1000 words per minute with excellent comprehension. This book is fairly small and offers lots of no nonsense advice to get you on your way to speed reading.
10 Days to Faster Reading
ASIN: 0446676675

Customer's Rating: 4
Summary: Incredible!
Comments: When I first bought this book I wasn't expecting much. It seemed unreasonable that reading speed could be increased greatly in a short period of time. I bought it anyway, however, in hopes that it might have valid suggestions to improve reading speed that I could develop over time.
It was a tremedous surprise when I more than TRIPLED my reading speed in just four days! When I began I was a slow to average reader (200 WPM). After four days I was able to read at nearly 650 WPM. However, comprehension is a different story. When I read quickly I find it hard to retain information. The book assures me that with practice I will begin to retain more of what I read. I am finding that this is true.
In conclusion, you should be able to learn how to read much faster (not necessarily triple your speed though) in just 10 days. But after learning how to read quickly, it will take a great deal of practice to gain the comprehension you had before.
Power Reading

Summary: Power to the Readers!
Comments: Within the first half-hour of opening Power Reading, I found ways to save time on the endless documents I have to read each day as part of my job. Thank you, Phyllis Mindel. Time translates to money and your book is worth its price ten times over. I had thought I was an efficient reader prior to picking up this user-friendly book, well-organized book, but I found dozens of ways to increase my productivity with Power Reading.
Breakthrough Rapid Reading
ASIN: 073520019X

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: Just started...but looking good...
Comments: I had some serious doubts about "Speed Reading"...so I bought this one from Amazon after researching, and reading alot...ALOT...of user comments. This one struck me as the only one that claimed the least, looked the best (from user comments), and seemed like a good overall choice.
In about 4 days, I've worked my speed to double my original rate. I'm still going through the book, and frankly im not even a third of the way through. I now comfortably read probably 120% more than what I originally could. When I read the old fashioned way, I feel like a snail.
It takes work. Kump not only gives you exercises, directions, explanations of those directions, but also gives you some estimations of how much you will accomplish - depending on how hard you work at it.
I'll give an update when i'm through the book completely. But as of right now...I frankly dont see how anyone of average reading abilities could get this book and not at least double their reading rate within a short amount of time. And to me, that alone is worth the price of the book (two lunches, tops).
Super Reading Secrets
ASIN: 0446362999

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: A truly helpful book for years to come!
Comments: Super reading secrets by Howard Stephen Berg is a book that is supposed to help increase you reading and it will do just that and so much more. Berg is acclaimed as the fastest reader in the world and this book will show you why.
Unlike so many other books that attempt to explain how to speed-read; Super Reading Secrets shows you how to focus your attention on the subject at hand. You are not taught to just speed-read but to comprehend as well.
After reading this book I have gained a real insight into how to read effectively and to comprehend more if what I have read, berg has done a great job. Berg is able to convey his message in a clear, concise manner without boring the reader.
If you want to save hundred of dollars on those seminars that may or may not help, spend less than $6.00 and get yourself a copy of this book, you won't be disappointed. I can't imagine anyone not wanting to read faster and better.
