Comments: This book was easy to follow and had ideas in it which were easy to adapt to other themes. I loved the information about how much activity each different age group should be able to handle. Summary: Well-organized and Comprehensive--One of the Best I've Seen
Comments: From Pittsburgh Parent (Beth A. Lawry) This book is still one of the best resources on party giving that I've seen. Hit of the Party is a well-organized and comprehensive party planner for children ages 1-10. I particularly liked the outline format. Headings are clear and let you skim through to find the sections you want. The introduction is well thought out and includes extremely helpful tips. Individual chapters include complete plans for 12 theme parties ranging from pirates to fairy tales, safaris to space. Four appendices in the back compile recipes, cake tips, crafts and games. Vangsgard also gets high marks for including photocopy-able lists and artwork, age ranges for activities and crafts and preparation times.

Comments: This book is colorful and bright. The ideas are easy and child friendly. The ideas are easy enough for the birthday children to help 100%.
You have everything you need: a party planner, cake recipes, food ideas, games and activites, party crafts, and even a shopping list.
This is definetly for the party planner impaired. 12 great parties, my only disappointment is that there were not more. Those 12 parties though, were complete, helpful and simple.
If your looking for the extravagent 'Martha' party, this book is not for you, these are parties that anyone and everyone can do.

Comments: It's about time that someone wrote a book about classroom parties. I know that when I was room parent it was not always easy to come up with ideas or help. With this book, it outlines exactly what a room parent needs to have a successful party. It includes game suggestions, arts and crafts suggestions and a section how to get other parents involved. I recommend this book to anyone who is going to volunteer to be room parent.

Summary: This will be the first book I grab when planning a party.
Comments: You can tell that the author of this book is a real "party animal"! Her enthusiasm is contagious. I do not have children of my own, but I have two nephews who will certainly benefit from Suzanne Singleton's expertise when their birthdays come around. I think the book is well thought out and will guide me all through the party planning process from invitations to thank you notes and everywhere in between (love the recipes and illustrations!). Thanks, Suzanne for sharing.

Summary: An excellent baking book even if you are not a mom.
Comments: I bought this book for a gift but after looking through it I had to keep it for myself. I would say that I am a medium level cook but I think the recipes are so easy and fool proof that even beginers will have success with them. I usually do the bulk of my baking during the holidays. So far I have made mainly the cookies from this book. I was tired of having Christmas cookies that looked good but were lacking in taste. This book has solved that problem for me. For the last two years I have made all of my holiday baking from this book. The almond thumbprints with the milk chocolate ganache is out of this world. Also excellent is the cherry and white chocolate rugelach. I had never tried such a complex cookie before, you have to make a dough, roll it out and shape the cookie, but the results were outstanding. The recipe for apple pie has become my standard Thanksgiving one. Best of all are the notes Lauren writes throughout the book. You feel like you get to know her and her family. Each chapter has an introduction to it so you know what equipment or special techniques you will need. There are also confidence boosts as Lauren explains how easy it really is to make waffles, breads, cookies, etc. I have always wanted to try making homemade pizza dough and Lauren's recipe is so straightfoward that I'm finally going to give it a try. There are no pictures of finished products in this book but I didn't miss them in the least. The recipes are all simple and straightfoward. There is an emphasis on not needing to have special equipment or hard to find ingredients. You probably own all of the equipment you need and all ingredients can be found in your local grocery store. If you should ever want to go a more exoctic route, Lauren also provides an online resource guide so you can find real chocolate sprinkles or the perfect shape cookie cutter. Whenever I want to make a treat this is the first book I reach for. I recommend it to everyone.

Summary: A Super Book!
Comments: I was hosting two parties in one week: one for a group of my children's friends (teens and pre-teens) and another for a group of my own friends (Gen X'ers and Baby Boomers). There were so many varied games in this book that both groups had a great time. Instructions are easy to follow and the games are all instantly addictive. If you're looking for something beyond the typical board games you'll find at most parties, this is perfect for you. Most games require only players and their brains, a few others require pen and pencil. No matter what, everything we played from this book was a lot of fun. Highly recommended!
