Comments: Focused on Scripture, Rick Warren's "Purpose-Driven Life" is not unlike Richard Bolles' spiritual goals' section of
"What Color Is Your Parachute," except that Bolles wants to help the reader find a fulfilling job, and Warren wants the reader to find meaning in their life.
Unlike Tolle, Zukav, Myss and other popular self-help writers, Rick Warren unapologetically confirms he believes that Jesus Christ is God, and that, fundamentally, we are here to serve and worship him. This clarity of belief counters some of these modern writers'
assertions that God is whomever you decides he or she shall be.
In fact, as you read, it is imperative to have your Bible next to you, and a notepad next to that. Don't be surprised if through reading you have a lot of "Aha!" moments, as you connect with things you may have long forgotten.
Fans of John Maxwell will find kinship in Warren's mission of practicality and approach.
Learn what are the basics of purposes before God, and what this means to the everyday Christian. In the current surge of openness among Americans to consider their own Christian upbringing, Warren presents that Jesus Christ alone can provide the security and structure of a fulfilled life, that Christ should be the purpose. He is careful not to sound monkish, and is clear as he describes that we live in this world.
He covers:
* Worship
* Fellowship
* Discipleship
* Ministry
* Mission
Unfortunately, the book is limited by its workshop tone. Like so many other self-help books, it seems as if the writer is promoting his seminars and brand name. In fact, the book is widely available for use in post-seminar small groups. This distraction, however, needs to be set aside as the reader asks the question, "Do I know who I am, do I know why I am here today, and do I know where I'm going?" Warren helps sort through the muck, and guide the reader toward discovering both the need for a purpose, and the purpose itself. This stuff matters, and this book can help get you there.
I fully recommend "Purpose-Driven Life" by Rick Warren.

Summary: Helps to start each day with our Lord
Comments: I highly recommend this daily devotional for every Christian, new or old in the faith. I have bought this every year for the past 4 years. It is a wonderful way to keep a diary and helpful for looking back on to see your growth in our Lord. Each day you start with a passage from the Scriptures and a commentay about it. I do not always agree with the commentaries, but they do make me think about what the Lord is telling me through His Word. I can, also, look back and see how the Lord has helped me through bad times and also, more importantly, see how he has blessed me through them and also through my good times. I have found this a very helpful tool in my Christian growth.

Summary: Make Sure You Look at the Dimensions!
Comments: I purchased this journal as a gift, and when it arrived, I was disappointed at how small it is. Although the dimensions ARE listed on the description page, they are very small and I didn't see them when I ordered the journal.
It IS a nice journal, if you want something pocket-sized.

Summary: Great Book by Lucado, as Usual!
Comments: I met a friend, Gabriela, in Ecuador on a mission trip this summer and now we are special friends who pray for and encourage each other daily. I purchased two of the books -- one for me and one for her. It is so great to e-mail her daily and know that we are both reading the same words each day. Many times we share with each other about the message which Max Lucado has spoken through God's Word. My daughter, Laurie 17, and I also have begun to read this devotional book together during breakfast. For many years, I have written a scripture on a card and put it in Laurie's lunch. It is now very easy to write the scripture from Lucado's book for her to be reminded of during lunchtime. Lucado is my most favorite Christian author. You will enjoy this devotional book.
